1.0.9v8 released today

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

a few little fixes here and there. deinterlacing wasn’t working in iPod/PSP advanced mode. h264 or mp4 selection for encoding iPod(non-advanced) was producing some incompatible files as well. those defaults also (import/prepare for ipod/psp) automatically encode to 640×480 low-complexity now.

we also finally remembered to add a “do you really want to quit” dialog that should’ve been in there ages ago.

and last but not least, we added a default in the general preferences to add all iPod encoded files to a playlist called “hawkeye” in iTunes upon completion.

1.0.9v7 released! important fixes and nice new mini window

Monday, September 25th, 2006

okay 1.0.9v7 was released today. 2-pass DVD->iPod/PSP encoding has been fixed and the bitrate selection is MUCH more accurate. Audio encoding from DVD to iPod/PSP was also broken for PPC (yeh lots of things i missed) these are all now tried tested and fixed.

while encoding it is now possible to minimize the hawkeye window with the zoom button in the windows title bar. we apologize for its rough appearance but we knew this update needed to get out ASAP

1.0.9v7 …

okay so there are a few things that we overlooked in 1.0.9v6 so we’re going to have a quick follow-up release today to address some issues with the new encoding methods…. stay tuned

1.0.9v6 released!

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

much awaited iPod H.264 640×480 support. a few things to note for copying files to your 5 or 5.5 gen iPod. Sometimes there is an issue that the file won’t play the first time, try it again, 99% of the time it works the second time around.

there is an undocumented change for PSP/iPod in the preferences. Prefs/Importing there is a new hideous misplaced iPod/PSP radio button set, that radio button sets which device to encode for the entire program, so any mode that says “iPod/PSP” will use the prefs to see which device you have targeted. It may still say “encoding for iPod” in one of the modes even if you have psp selected, don’t worry because it’s still setting the proper device internally.

changing the framerate for AVI/MPEG-4 was implemented to add some support for other media devices. (Palm, Cell phones). you can also set the desired output size by bitrate or desired size in MB

there have been some bugs addressed as well, always encoding in 2-pass for iPod in advanced mode is fixed and the garbled error dialog for dvdauthoring should at least display properly now.

sorry if i missed anything we should have some better documentation for everything coming very soon, thanks for all your patience so far.

apple updates…

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

so just like everyone else we have been engulfed in all the new apple updates. we are working right now to see if there are some new encoding settings we can put in to accomodate the new features in the iPod video. we’ll keep everyone posted.

new blog and host AND hawkeye version (triple whammy!)

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

okay we finally gave dreamhost the heave-ho and they “shuffled loose the mortal coil”. we are now with a much more stable host which won’t require us to publish a blog elsewhere. all the new updates and blather will be posted on this blog. its a bit late so i apologize if this is nonsensical.

the new hawkeye version also debuted today and is hopefully much more stable then its prior counterpart. some nice new long awaited features (2-pass encoding, options to deinterlace, resolution choices etc..) we hope its stable enough to end our procrastination on the 1.1 re-write. we’ll keep ya posted.

we also have discontinued updates on the flash version of the site in favor of a less eye-catching html counterpart, too many bandwith and compatability issues with the flash version.
