Holidays…

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

We apologize for any negligence in answering any support forum / email or moderation of comments (the comment moderation was a terrible oversight on my part) I’ve been out of town for a week or so and had very limited access to the internet. Hopefully in the next two days we’ll have the PSP commune section up on the website with more information and background on the software. We want to aim for next week sometime as the release of the first version. Shortly thereafter we are aiming for a hawkeye 1.1 release, we are very sorry that has been delayed so long, its hard to anticipate some of the problems and distractions that have hit us in the last month or so.

we thank everyone for their patience, we promise some great things very soon.

hawkeye 1.0.9v11

we didn’t want to have to take this code base to this extent, however something came to our attention to make us fully aware that it was a necessity. apparently to “properly” burn a VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD isn’t a cheap process. While these DVD’s did work on a variety of players they had a low success rate on the whole (as is our understanding)

In light of these revelations we decided it was high time to release a new version of hawkeye. Unfortunately we could not address every issue that was brought to our attention.

Some users are experiencing crashes for no discernable reason in DVD->iPod encoding and we have had minimal success in isolating the problem. On the contrary we have had other issues that we had success in addressing. For instance some users were having a problem with encoding files for iPod or a variety of other formats that were being hardcoded to an NTSC film frame rate (23.976…) This was leading to jumpy encodes that we only recently have come into contact with.

I apologize for the convoluted introduction that has not plagued our prior releases. The short and skinny of this new release: We have added ISO creation back into the application, however one can burn from VIDEO_TS or ISO.

VIDEO_TS burning has been relagated to unsupported but it is still in the application. If the Burn DVD checkbox is selected in the Authoring pane preferences or in our new auxiliary view for “Convert to DVD” functionality without the “Create Disc image” checkbox selected hawkeye will still burn from the VIDEO_TS folder (while its not completely supported, if it worked for users we don’t want to punish them and force the extra space of ISO creation). If create Disc image and Burn DVD are selected then it will do both.

We figured the prior solution was the happy medium to the problem at hand. In addition we have added some sheet views that will make sure a blank DVD is inserted prior to burning. They aren’t fool-proof yet but they reflect a step up in the grand scheme of things (burning wise anyways)

and finally (due to much popular demand) we have added the progress to both mini and main application windows to inform the user for multi-pass encoding whether or not it is the first pass or the second pass.

last but not least we have added alpha support for Nintendo Wii encoding. “Prepare for Wii” is available from the file contextual menu or the advanced menu. We have not gotten our hands on the Wii or a user with one so we make no guarantee that the files encoded with this process will actually work. We implore any user or potential user to give us any feedback or contact us directly to facilitate the convalescence of this process.

keep your eyes peeled because we will be adding a preview section today with a sneak preview at our new application coming out.
